School Policies

To find out about class cancellation or changes that are emergent, call 488-5043 or check the Message Board on line at www.annsdance.com. Ann will post any class changes or cancellations for any reason as soon as the decision is made. We ask that parents check the site when there is inclement weather. If the change is not last minute we will post in the school newsletter. If you have a problem, question or concern that requires Ann's attention, you may contact her at home at 458-2436, via email at annsdance@aol.com, or at her office 488-5043.

Tuition
Payment is due on a quarterly basis by the first week of each new quarter. Quarters are broken down as follows: 1st quarter (Sept, Oct, Nov), 2nd quarter (Dec, Jan, Feb), 3rd quarter (Mar, Apr, May, Jun). If you send cash in with your child, please put it in a sealed envelope with the student's name and class day on it. If paying by check please put the student's name and the quarter the payment is for on the memo line. No credit or make ups will be given for missed classes. When a child misses a lesson, additional individual time is given at the next lesson to catch up. Class prices range from $90 to $120 per quarter depending on location.

Class Attire
Students should wear loose comfortable clothing, shorts or skirts are preferred. Stretch pants or leggings are acceptable during the colder Winter months. No jeans please and hair should be pulled back off the face.

Times
Please arrive for your class 5-10 minutes early in order to prepare (dance shoes, stretching, etc.) Classes will start promptly. Please pick up your children immediately after class as there is no supervision after class since the next class will be in progress.

Dance Shoes
Soft shoes or "reel" shoes are REQUIRED. Beginner dancers may purchase inexpensive BLACK ballet shoes (available from WalMart, K-Mart, or PayLess for less than $10.00). Irish ghillies are available for $38.00 from Mrs. Johnston. Ann will advise you when a student is ready for "hard shoes" and these are also available from Mrs. Johnston for $80.00. Used shoes of both styles are occasionally available.

Class Observation
Given the size of the dance studio OBSERVATION IS NOT ALLOWED DURING CLASSES. In addition it is too distracting for both the student and teacher. Please refrain from asking questions at the end of your child's class if there is another class scheduled to follow. Doing so takes time from students in the next class and is not fair to those students. Parents may reach Ann using the contact information listed above.

Dance Out Information

1) ALL DANCERS FOR ANY PARTICULAR SHOW ARE SELECTED BY ANN AND/OR PATTY. DANCERS CHOSEN TO DO DANCE-OUTS ARE CHOSEN FOR THEIR OVERALL CAPABILITY TO REMEMBER DANCES, HAVING APPROPRIATE COSTUMES AND CHEERFUL BUT PRECISE EXECUTION OF THE DANCES. PLEASE NOTE WHEN BEING INVITED TO DANCE OUT, YOUR QUICK RESPONSE IS NECESSARY AND IF YOU FAIL TO RESPOND, WE WILL MOVE ON TO THE NEXT DANCER. IT IS NECESSARY TO HAVE ACCOUNT PAID IN FULL TO BE ALLOWED TO DANCE OUT! IT IS AT ANN'S DISCRETION. ANY PARENTS WITH DANCE-OUT CONCERNS OF THIS NATURE SHOULD SPEAK WITH ANN DIRECTLY.

2) MANY OF THE SHOWS ARE DONE WITHOUT ANN OR PATTY BEING PRESENT. THERE WILL BE SOMEONE THERE WHO KNOWS HOW TO RUN A SHOW. EVEN THOUGH IT MAY LOOK LIKE IT WILL NEVER WORK, IT ALMOST ALWAYS COMES TOGETHER AT THE LAST MINUTE. BE PATIENT. PLEASE GIVE THEM YOUR FULL COOPERATION. (THEY ARE UNPAID VOLUNTEERS! WE DON?T PAY THEM ENOUGH TO YELL AT THEM! THEY ARE DOING THEIR BEST.) OFFER TO HELP!!!

3) IF YOU HAVE COMMITTED TO BEING PRESENT AT A DANCE OUT, PLEASE BE THERE AND ARRIVE ON TIME. IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO ATTEND, PLEASE CALL PATTY OR EMAIL HER AT PEWILSCH@HOTMAIL.COM. SHE WILL CONTACT A REPLACEMENT.

4) WHEN YOU ARE ASKED TO GET READY TO PRACTICE, PLEASE DO SO QUICKLY AND QUIETLY. (WE ALWAYS START WITH GHILLIES.)

5) IF YOU ARE A DANCER WITH MORE THAN ONE COSTUME, ALWAYS BRING ALL YOUR COSTUMES.

6) DANCERS IN SENIOR COSTUMES WEAR BLACK OPAQUE TIGHTS (NOT STOCKINGS) AND BLACK SPANKIES WITH YOUR COSTUME. HAVE YOUR SHOES POLISHED.

7) DANCERS IN BLACK AND GREEN DRESSES WEAR BLACK OPAQUE TIGHTS (NOT STOCKINGS) AND BLACK SPANKIES.

8) DANCERS IN JUNIOR COSTUMES WEAR POODLE SOCKS! PLEASE DO NOT WEAR TIGHTS.

9) THE YOUNGER DANCERS IN THE WHITE PETER PAN BLOUSES & PLEATED BLACK SKIRTS WITH THE CAPES SHOULD ALSO WEAR POODLE SOCKS.

10) REMEMBER TO SMILE & HAVE FUN. IT IS OUR ABILITY TO SHARE THE LOVE OF IRISH DANCE WITH EVERYONE THAT IS IMPORTANT!

PS: IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ATTEND AS MANY DANCE OUTS AS POSSIBLE. THIS IS HOW WE EARN MONEY FOR OUR COSTUME FUND. ONCE YOU HAVE ACQUIRED THE ABILITY TO PERFORM, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO DO SO. THANKS!
